The Joke

A dog walks into the stable where two horses were standing. The dog says to the horses: "Good morning."

After the dog walks out, one horse turns to the other and says:

"Imagine that. A talking dog."

The Context

I think we heard the punch line about lynchings more but, in some ways, this is the quintessential Babcock joke par excellence. The kind of joke that causes outsiders, those not "in the know" to look at each other and shake their head in pity!

So it’s not as elegant as "There is nothing new under the sun." Tough.
