Making a Banana Treat

This vendor can be found most mornings and afternoons on Sukhumvit Soi 55 (Thong Lo) just in from the mouth of the soi. Every morning he starts with a large bushel of bananas, which he methodically cooks and sells until everyone of them is gone. Using a certain type of banana very well suited to the task, he first grills them, then flattens them out, then dips them in a sweet, coconut sauce and then grills them again — the golden colored bananas second from the right are close to being finished. The dish is called kanom bping.
