Shallots, Garlic & Chiles at Nakhon Si Thammarat Market

This woman is selling shallots, garlic, chiles, and (in the back) fresh turmeric. Crispy Fried Turmeric Catfish (which uses a lot of garlic, as well), a favorite southern dish, comes immediately to mind! Shallots are used more than onions in Thai cooking and fresh turmeric is used in many dishes in the south.
